Matt holds a BA LLB degree from the University of the Witwatersrand, and a Post Graduate Diploma in Maritime Law from the University of Cape Town. His main areas of activity are in renewable energy, oil & gas, unconventional gas, nuclear, and base load power. His key skills are in project structuring and development, construction, operations and supply agreements, regulatory and environmental compliance, and risk management across all energy sectors. Matt was previously the Head of Energy for Sub-Saharan Africa at international firm Norton Rose Fulbright and presently consults to the State-Owned Entity in the nascent South African gas importation and gas-to-power programme. His key energy and infrastructure clients include Sappi, Enel Green Power, Juwi, Canadian Solar, Sonnedix/Mulilo, Exxaro, Cobra, Rosatom, Chevron, Transnet, Total, Eni, Statoil, Petredec, and PetroSA. Matt also has considerable experience with the SA REIPPPP including leading the legal work stream on the bids by sponsors and developers in a range of renewable energy technologies (biomass, solar PV and wind) and undertaking the development of the EPC-, O&M- and other project agreements for developers and contractors in projects that have been awarded preferred bidder status.
